Music
Music is a feeling, an emotion, a reflection of society, where we’ve been, where we are and where we are going. It is a universal language that expresses creativity and develops an awareness of different genres and cultures.
The music curriculum at All Saints’ has a focus on active music making and developing pupils' creativity whilst still teaching pupils the skills and knowledge they would need to study music at a higher level. It aims to engage, inspire and develop a love for music. The department fosters a respectful environment where pupils feel comfortable to perform, be creative and make mistakes. It provides pupils' with both an academic and a practical curriculum which will enable them to study a variety of post-16 courses. Pupils develop knowledge and vocabulary over a sequenced five-year curriculum that becomes gradually more challenging and interleaves previous learning. Pupils are assessed regularly and given a variety of feedback to enable them to make progress.
Pupils are able to experience a variety of opportunities both in and outside the classroom, gaining confidence from small-scale performances in class and have the opportunity to perform on stage at school events. Pupils understand the value and importance of music in the wider community and are encouraged to take part in a variety of events. Involvement in extra-curricular activities makes pupils feel part of the school community and enhances their school experience. Music has the ability to develop skills for life, increasing self-confidence, creativity and a sense of achievement. Pupils are encouraged to both work independently and as part of a group performing, listening, creating and evaluating music.
